Common Symptoms:

Risk Factors:

  • Contaminated food or water
  • Close contact with infected person
  • Weakened immune system

Seek care: If you cannot keep fluids down for 24 hours, have bloody diarrhea, fever over 104F, or signs of dehydration.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

A chronic digestive disease where stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation.

Common Symptoms:

Risk Factors:

  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Smoking

Seek care: If you have severe or frequent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, persistent nausea, or unexplained weight loss.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

A chronic gastrointestinal disorder causing abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits without structural abnormalities.

Common Symptoms:

Risk Factors:

  • Female sex
  • Age under 50
  • Family history

Seek care: If you have unexplained weight loss, rectal bleeding, persistent vomiting, or difficulty swallowing.
