An infectious illness usually caused by Epstein-Barr virus, common in teenagers and young adults.

Common Symptoms:

Risk Factors:

  • Age 15-25
  • Close contact with infected person
  • Sharing utensils

Seek care: If you develop severe abdominal pain (possible splenic enlargement), difficulty breathing, or symptoms lasting more than 2 weeks.

Strep Throat

Infectious

A bacterial infection of the throat and tonsils caused by Group A Streptococcus.

Common Symptoms:

sore throat fever headache swollen lymph nodes difficulty swallowing nausea +1 more

Risk Factors:

  • Age 5-15
  • Close contact with infected person
  • Season (winter/spring)

Seek care: If sore throat is severe, lasts more than 48 hours, is accompanied by rash, or difficulty breathing.
